The Porters said “I do” 50 years ago and they said it again last Saturday night. I must tell you that when I walked into the lobby and was greeted by Mrs. Porters original and beautiful wedding gown along with so many other authentic items for her wedding 50 years ago, I was blown away! Hooray…for another pack rat like me. Now I don’t feel so bad! I came home and informed my hubby right away that I was not the only person in the world who held onto things year after year. However, I must admit that Mrs. Porter even had me beat! The icing on the cake was her original panty hose box…how cool is that? I enjoyed looking at all of these items and imagining her excitement at that time. Her tiara, original mailings from her wedding pastor, ring boxes, guest book and marriage license. It was really a fantastic display of interesting articles of the history behind the Porter marriage. I wish more people saved such sentimental things.
This was a night of celebration in honor of The Porter’s but let me tell you that, in no way, did it lack of FUN! I laughed so hard at the mock wedding acted out by The Porter’s relatives. I had trouble even holding my camera still because I was laughing so hard! Nothing better than people enjoying a great laugh. Even if you weren’t aware of the “behind the scenes” story that was being acted out you couldn’t help but enjoy the display of humor. Mallory filled me in after the fact but I still enjoyed the skit just as much before I even knew. Bravo to all of you for not being embarrassed to play a role and bring a smile to the faces of all who were lucky enough to participate in such a memorable event!
Mr. and Mrs. Porter, I pray that 40 years from now that I will be celebrating my 50th wedding anniversary! You are an inspiration to all of your family as well as those of us strangers who have had the distinct pleasure of getting to know you. May the love and memories that you carried with you over the last 50 years roll right over on top of the new memories created this night and straight into the future. What a blessing you both are! I thank you for allowing me the honor of sharing this special time with you and your precious loved ones! Congratulations on 50 years ago and 50 years from now!!!
So beautiful! We all long for a lasting marriage like this one! Congrats to the Porters, even 50 years later, you can still see the love and excitement this couple has for each other!
