On this day, I want to take just a quick moment to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!!! May the spirit of CHRISTmas joy that fills your hearts today follow you all the days in the coming year.
My brother said to me last night, as he helped me move the boys gifts in to my room to be wrapped “Man, I would love to be little again when Christmas was so fun!” I recall drinking Nyquil when I was young just to calm the adrenalin and anticipation of Santa Claus coming. Now I see that same excitement in the eyes of my boys and it makes me incredibly happy. Although I never want my boys to forget the real reason why we celebrate CHRISTmas, I do love the fact that they dream and believe in a mystical miracle otherwise known as Santa Claus. The imagination of our children is an incredible gift to us as parents. It takes you back and makes you remember and appreciate the innocent joys of childhood.
That said…I think that I am in trouble with Austin (my oldest) this year. The child is so focused on the “small details.” He came to me this morning and said, “Mom…I know that you put those Santa presents by the fireplace. I saw that same wrapping paper in your bucket.” Now, mind you…I am extremely cautious in making certain that I never duplicate my presents with the same wrapping paper as Santa’s! He noticed that paper in my bucket as it came out of the attic this year. He pays attention to EVERY single detail that most other children would never think about. And unfortunately, this wasn’t the first “ah-ha” moment that he had concerning Santa this year. Earlier this week, as I prepared my annual Christmas newsletter, I was sorting through some Christmas paper trying to decide which one to print on and he spied something. All of the sudden he exclaims…”MOM! That is the same EXACT paper that Santa wrote my Christmas letter on last year. Hold on, I’ll go get it!” Off he went to retrieve the letter…sure ’nuff…the paper was identical. I tried to make a save with the excuse that Santa must have run out of paper and it was a good thing that I had some extra pages that he could borrow. He didn’t really buy it. And now the wrapping paper ordeal has done me in! ;-) I guess I should be grateful that he believed for 7 years.
May the Lord bless you and your family this CHRISTmas day! And may we all enjoy the spirit of the season, the imagination of our children and the love of our families!!! From my home to yours…MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
