I don’t think there has been a day that I didn’t love my job. Well…okay…maybe on a few of those 2am editing marathons I might spew a few not so positive words. ;-) However, yesterday was a no exception to the “I love my job” statement. In fact, yesterday made me treasure my job even more! There are those special couples that come along that you just know that you are meant to work with. Megan and Trace are undeniably one of those couples! Megan and I have kept in touch on FB for quite some time so I knew that this engagement session would not be a typical one for me. They are serious outdoorsy folks. I knew that I needed my venue to compliment their personalities. Enter a sweet friend, Mrs. Brittany Bell, and her fabulous farm! I don’t think we could have designed a more perfect location.
In my line of work it’s not out of the ordinary to run into ornery men who would rather be beaten than have their picture taken. Trace wasn’t exactly jumping for joy but he was such a great sport with an even greater attitude! About 10 minutes into the session I knew that Trace was one of those fellas that everybody loves! What a sweet human being he is. Honestly, I just wanted to hug his neck a time or two…actually, I think I did. ;-) Megan…what an awesome guy you have to spend the rest of your life with! I have no doubt that the two of you will see many years of laughter and joy together.
Now let me introduce you to the beautiful Megan. She and I have a few things in common actually…a mean streak being one of them. Or shall we just refer to it as spice? I did not draw this conclusion on my own but rather from the direct statement of her sweet Momma (who joined us yesterday) and Megan herself. Of course Trace didn’t disagree either. LOL! Here’s the thing about us girls who like to be in control of things…we tend to be a bit bossy but we love deeper than the depths of the sea. And I have no doubt that Megan’s love for Trace reaches even beyond. I adored the way that she would say to him “I love you Trace” and the way her baby blue’s peered deeper into his eyes then my camera could even follow. These two souls are destined to be together. And it’s good for a man to have a woman with the ability to keep him in line!
We can’t all be exactly alike though…right? Here is where Megan and I differ. Now, I am all for wrestlin’ in the mud-hole but not in my good britches, boots and belt. No sir! This girl, God love her, was determined to have a little mud wrestlin’ match with Trace yesterday. We came upon this perfect hole fit for pigs to waller in (as her Momma accounted) and Megan’s eyes lit up as bright as the sky! “You ready Trace?” she says? And like a wonderfully admiring husband-to-be would do…he followed her into that mud hole and the rest is history! I stood atop Brittany’s big ole’ Ford and shot the scene as it unfolded. I was laughing so hard that it was difficult to stay focused on my job. I mean seriously…how often does something so awesome and down right dirty happen on an engagement shoot? I thanked the Lord for Megan and Trace asking me to be their wedding photographer. These are my kinda people y’all! I was right at home…although I didn’t join them in the mud.
Megan and Trace…I simply adore you both and couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of your upcoming wedding! I am truly counting down the days. I had so much fun with y’all yesterday. The love that you share is just infectious. What a perfect pair. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your world. It was an absolute BLAST!
*I am going to load a slide show of the entire mud scene on it’s own blog post. There are too many great ones to narrow down!

Dawn…these are above amazing! I’m thinking you have another contest to win sometime in the near future. I love the first shot too, but I think my other 2 favs are the one of them standing next to the hay bale with the moss hanging down in the pic and the pic of the 2 of them sitting on the cute little dock. They are a beautiful couple and she looks like a lot of fun…can’t wait to see the wedding pics! Congrats Megan and and Trace!

Holy Bloody Great Day Alive – (Dawn, I know I haven’t met you yet) – but you are freakin awesome! Oh, this is Megan’s sister (sucky MOH, been fired twice… but – absolutely adore my blue-eyed devil baby sister) and you have totally and completely captured the total essence of her and Trace. Each picture exemplifies your passion and talent for photography and (according to my sister…and yes, even the Trace-ster) your down-to-earth and sweet persona which encompasses your entire personality. We’ve been talking about you and your pictures for days; the joy you and your pictures have brought to Megan, Trace and our family is immeasurable – thank you so much for being such a phenomenal chica :) Oh, I can’t wait to meet you and your big ol’ giant lens (which probably weighs more than you…hey, you can’t help it that you are a strong buckin’ bronco with bulging biceps, that’s how us little people roll – LOL)!
OHMYGOODNESS, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE These!! That looks like it was an awesome session, an all around awesome day and honestly, it makes me want to hire you for my renewing of the vows, just so we can take “engagement” pictures in mud! ;)
I have watched this over and over with tears in my eyes! Dawn, you are absolutely amazing! I’ve been following your work since Meg decided to use you and I knew you were good, but to see my brother and his beautiful bride-to-be caught perfectly on film, and to feel the love exuding through the screen is heartwarming!!!
