Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Haley from Texas. She is not only beautiful but she is smart! Haley doubts that photography will become a full time career replacement for her but what she knows for sure is that she loves it and wants to continue to sharpen her abilities. Most of Haley’s portrait work is with children and families so we scheduled her shooting time with two adorable, big blue-eyed kiddos. She specifically said that a “squirmy subject” would probably help her learn the most. Jaden and Jacob were happy to oblige her request. ;-)
These two little dolls are only 12 months apart. And they are certainly on the go! They keep their Momma and Daddy…who happen to be great friends of mine…on their toes. You may recall seeing Jacob’s newborn session here on the blog. He has only gotten cuter by the day! And flaunts a set of eyes that will one day, no doubt, make the girls swoon. And Miss Jaden…well she is a little firecracker in her own right. With her dainty little frame and her pink painted toe nails she is like a little bubble of joy floating around.
Haley and I have quite a few things in common. For instance some of our terminology like…”umpteen.” Our need for organization. Reality TV. Our shared “over shooter” status. ;-) The workshop is minute to minute packed with work but there are breaks when we have a quick moment for personal chit chat to get to know each other better. Haley was impressed with my eating abilities. Now y’all know how much I LOVE to eat. Haley witnessed that first hand yesterday. We even reminisced about how awesome the endless food buffets in Jamaica are! Yes, we had Jamaica in common too. Although Haley convinced me to reconsider Cabo for my next vaca.
Haley, I could not have had a better time with you…even though we sweated off almost all of our make-up and probably a pound or two. I warned you that you wouldn’t be catching any breaks from the Texas heat. Lord have mercy it was a scorcher yesterday! Hot or not…I loved every minute of it. I thank you for sharing you with me. You are a dear and I have every confidence that you will get your business moving the exact fashion that you had hoped for. All my best!
With love and support…Dawn
Goodness, I would have never guessed that they would have turned out sooooo cute! Thank you!
I love them:)) Thank you so much and sorry they were so hard to take pictures of yesterday…I want to order 2 to 4 pictures please:))
wow–great images–and knowing how hot it has been everywhere I have tried to shoot recently–in hot-lanta; dallas; and greenville–you guys did a great job capturing some “cool” kids–outstanding
even though you can tell it’s incredibly hot (only by the sweat on their sweet little heads) you somehow manage to make these photos look REFRESHING. i love your bright modern style and the way you capture everything with just light and happiness. awesome.
Oh my gosh this is soooo cute! Definitely made me smile. Fantastic job!
Your photos always make a person feel as thought they were really there!!! Love these!!!
So I need to preface this with, normally I am the most prompt on top of things person there is, rather OCD to a fault….So that being said, this post should have come oh about 5 days ago. But I have been so sick it isn’t even funny – strep throat and I am 33 years old! I have slept the last three days pretty much all day, so a huge thank you to my husband who has essentially been Mr. mom for about a week straight now. Anyhoo, onto bigger and better things (Still sick btw, but I am determined to get this out (my blog will continue to suffer)…
My time with Dawn was great – talk about a super personable, make you feel like you have known her for 20 years kind of person. I was so beat after our time, and have spent lots of time since (mostly in bed) digesting all that I learned. As Dawn’s post says, I am not in it for the money (really I have a great job, and I can assure you I will never quit (or get fired – I work for the Government – don’t laugh they pay a lot better than you think and the benefits are to die for)). Anyways, the big things I took away from my time with dawn – Composition and Catchlights – finding the sweet spot to get those killer eyes, indoor lighting (although we all know dawn is about 95% natural lighting) – she gave me a great and inexpensive set-up for newborns, shooting in manual to truly get the shots I want – I have a tendency to get nervous and swtich to Aperture Priority in a pinch, working to get the best shot SOOC – as time goes on, I know I will improve this, thus gaining confidence in my ability to present with less editing, and working to gain consistency in my work – I am so all over the place it scares me. But I love so many different styles, this is going to be a big long term goal for me…..And so much more!!! If my head were in a clearer state, I could probably ramble for days! Anyhoo, thank you Dawn for your time and thank you for inviting me into your beautiful Jacksonville home, where I am sure if I didn’t see you again for 20 more years, you would still be calling home (I can tell you love it that much)!
For anyone out there considering it, feel free to shoot me an email and I can get really longwinded with you if you like – hnphotography@hotmail.com
Take care all!
