It was a pleasure to join my dear friend Evie Curley in her hometown of Greensboro NC for the official launch of the Triad Cities SMUG. I was so proud to walk into her quaint little studio and see just how far she has come in her business. It felt so “official” to see her name in that front window and her beautiful sign above the door. It even provoked some thoughts of the possibility of my own studio in the future.

I was laughing and enjoying some rare time with my Step Mom and my little sister. We had just scarfed down two baskets of freshly prepared Mexican tortilla chips and salsa…when it happened. I blurted out the words “I think I want to cut my hair.” My Step Mom said “check please!” and my little sister was on the phone lining up a stylist quicker than I had time to reconsider. This was a huge deal and we all knew it. The strange thing was, I had spoke to two different audiences the two nights before and for some reason on both nights I had this nagging feeling about my hair. It bothered me, like never before. I knew it couldn’t be drastic but for the first time since my early childhood, I was ready for a change.
We all have those amazing weekends when we wish we could stop father time…this was one of those weekends for me. Saturday we packed a picnic lunch and headed to Summer Waves for the last day of the season and it was perfect! Few lines. Gorgeous weather. Lazy River. All together glorious! The kids had an absolute blast. It reminded me of the days of summer in my childhood when me and my cousins spend the weekends at Stricklands Lake…oh how I miss that place. In fact, we would dream about how fun it was going to be when we were grown and could take “our kids” there someday. It’s sad really that such a wonderful family spot is no longer available to our children. So, Summer Waves was a great alternative.
If you or someone you know if within driving distance of Greensboro NC I would love to see you at the launch! Mark your calendars for Thursday September 23rd at 7:00. We are going to have awesome giveaways and just a ton of fun! After the presentation I will be sticking around for Q&A and then we will likely head somewhere local for a bite to eat and some casual conversation. This is a great chance to get to know your local photography community on a different level. This is why our SMUG communities are so important! We welcome everyone! We never charge! And we give you a reason to meet and mingle with your local colleagues…inevitably creating a network of people who will “have you back” if you ever need them.
