I rented a car and drove in the pouring rain from Grand Rapids to Auburn Hills. I struggled to find a decent radio station while on the road…not sure if it was just bad luck or bad MI radio stations but geez! Can’t a girl just hear some Ke$ha or Pink while on a solo drive?
I made it to my little sisters house just in time to grab a quick change and dart off to the Chrysler Museum to guest speak at the launch of the Detroit SMUG. I was extra happy to have my sister and my step mom in the crowd that night. Love y’all. Jerry Roek, Adrienne and Larry did a fantastic job of room set up and event coordination. Thanks y’all! The photo booth blew me away! I am beyond stoked about this super simple set up for my weddings! I believe it will be “debuted” at Imaging USA in January. In the meantime…I am going to share it with my SMUG this month. Yippee!!! Okay…back to Detroit SMUG. The chain of metallic prints on the wall was a huge hit! Thanks to Bay Photo for sponsoring the images for members to take home at the end of the night. Let me especially thank whoever set up the projector and screen because believe it or not…the color was spot on! Yahoo. That’s was such a treat! And Detroit must have known that I was coming because…they had cake!!! Y’all know I love some cake. And honestly, who could resist the friendly SmugMug smiley face??? Not me! I had a piece there and carted the rest home…you know it!
This was an incredibly successful launch!!! I have all faith that Detroit SMUG is going to ROCK! The participation level was outstanding. The members were anxious to engage in conversation and willing to share experiences and thoughts. I urged them to embrace my colleague not competition motto. I think they will. Detroit, I thank you for your attention and willingness to listen to what this little ol’ southern gal had to say. Your feedback has made me so proud. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. I would love to return to MI again in the future. It’s nice to know that y’all would welcome me back. : )
A very special thank you to Carri Mullins for arranging the after party. What a great turn out! I always enjoy the smaller group conversations that take place “after hours.” Which is exactly why I always encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to network within your own local photographic community. Invaluable relationships are created during those times…take advantage!!!
And last, but certainly not least…many, many thanks to one of the coolest companies that I have ever had the pleasure of working with…Smug Mug. I just love everything about y’all. Thank you for your constant support and your unmatched dedication! I BIG puffy heart y’all!!!

Dawn, it really was a great night, and you definitely played a part in that. I am so excited to be a part of this group, and it was an absolute pleasure to finally meet you and hear you speak about something that you are so passionate about. I am glad that we were able to take advantage of the after party and enjoy some casual conversation. I’m sure that I speak for everyone when I say that you are ABSOLUTELY welcome back anytime. I’d like to be able to say that, during your next visit to MI, I could give you tips on which radio station to use, but whenever I am not forced to listen to kid stuff, the nerd in me just has to indulge in some National Public Radio (Sad isn’t it) so I would probably be no help there. Lol. I’m glad you enjoyed your time here. Thank you for taking the time to help us kick off the Detroit SmugMug User Group meeting. :)
