I was laughing and enjoying some rare time with my Step Mom and my little sister. We had just scarfed down two baskets of freshly prepared Mexican tortilla chips and salsa…when it happened. I blurted out the words “I think I want to cut my hair.” My Step Mom said “check please!” and my little sister was on the phone lining up a stylist quicker than I had time to reconsider. This was a huge deal and we all knew it. The strange thing was, I had spoke to two different audiences the two nights before and for some reason on both nights I had this nagging feeling about my hair. It bothered me, like never before. I knew it couldn’t be drastic but for the first time since my early childhood, I was ready for a change.
A sweet friend of my sisters met us within the hour. I explained my “attachment” to Erica and she understood. I mean she really understood. Not like laughing behind my back but in a way that made me feel completely comfortable allowing her to stand behind me with a pair of scissors and no mirror for me to watch. When she finished round one I looked at Dawn (my Step-Mom) and Alexis (my sister) for their approval and Dawn said, “that’s it???” I laughed and took a deep breath. “It doesn’t look any different!” she said. I went to the mirror and I had to agree with her. Back to the chair for round two.
By round three I was feeling spunky. I know, it’s pathetic. But you have to understand that my hair has always been such a huge part of my appearance. It was how people recognized me. It had been this way pretty much my entire life. But, it was time for a change. Dawn and Alexis agreed that round three had shown some major improvement and they were proud of me. : ) Neither one of them could believe it when I said, “I think I can stand a little bit more.” After round four I was emotional but excited! Erica did a fabulous job and I am so happy that I actually followed through with the idea. After a quick trip to Meijer (the North’s version of Wal-Mart) for some hair product that I had never heard of I was finally on the road to a fresh and modern look. I have fixed it up to share with you my dear internet as part of a long overdue video blog.

I’ve heard this speech and I love it each time I hear it but this time I loved the hair tossing ;)….you can tell you LOVE your new look. You look fabulous
LOVE the hair! Totally agree with you with your take on us wedding photogs. I’ve always lived by the same rule. There are so many couples every weekend, so there’s plenty of business to go around! And you’re so right, we are all a little different…and we click with certain clients which is why they book us. We have a lot of great talented photographers in Jax…luckily the majority of them all have the same mentality.
Very well said!!!
