Last year I began the exploration into shooting Macros. I thought I just wasn’t meant to shoot them. I couldn’t produce those “wow” images that I saw so many others creating. It frustrated me tremendously because I do not like to not be able to achieve something that I attempt. I tried. I failed. I tried again.
One of my problems was that I was attempting to shoot wide open…as I normally do. Well, that theory doesn’t cut it for Macro. Not in my experience anyways. And I must thank a sweet gal named Rebekah Tillotson for her guidance in helping me decipher the art of Macro. If you have a minute you should check out her Blog RGBeki. She is quite an insightful and fascinating gal!
I recently purchased the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro and I am currently obsessed with trying to produce the images that I envision in my mind, whether it be diamonds or weeds. ;-) I am fully aware that I have a long way to go before Macro shooting becomes routine for me. In fact, I am not certain that it ever will become routine because there are so many precise factors involved in nailing a great macro shot. That considered, when I set my mind to something I refuse to stop until I accomplish it. Like I said…long way to go but today this macro capture was more than just a weed.
Happy Wednesday y’all!
Way to go Dawn! I have the same lens and also have a lot of trouble getting the shots I want. I tried doing a 10 day macro project to force me to use the macro lens. I still have some work to do! LOL I agree, shooting wide open doesn’t work as well with macros. It sucks! Keep up the great work!
I adore macro work. It is, by far, my favorite work to do. I’m sure that you know this! :) If you ever need any help you just let me know, okay? And keep re-reading that convo we had on facebook about it! There’s a lot to it, but it is ever so worth it! :)))) <3 xoxoxo
A good macro shot never needs sharpness or clarity added to it. That is what I try to aim for in my work :)
i wish my weeds looked like this! haha! very pretty!
I love macro. The same goes for switching from macro to wide lenses. I always shot with a macro or wide angle for landscapes. It takes some getting used too. Your image looks awesome!! You can see the hair off of the stem. Love it.
wow gorgeous!!!!!!!!!I rented that lens a while back and loved it..its also a great portrait lens believe it or not ;)
BEAUTIFUL Dawn!! YOU captured it perfect my Lady!!! <3
Pretty!
Yep, Macro can be frustrating! You have a great lens for it ! That 100 is reported to be one of the best macro lenses available.
Keep up the experimenting, and if you’d like to compare notes, let me know. I enjoy shooting macro, and I also constantly struggle to achieve images on the computer screen that I see when looking thru the viewfinder.
I recently posted on FB some images of flowers similar to the purple one you show on this page.
