I am not afraid to travel alone but I will say that I hate to drive alone. Actually, I hate to drive any great distance even with company. I get too tired but yet I can’t sleep in the car. I am too nervous that the driver (normally my hubby) will miss people breaking or the car coming over on us or the madman approaching us from behind at 100+ miles per hour. Yeah, I know…control freak.
So, I booked a quick flight down to Miami to attend the one and only Grace Ormonde world book tour party. It was a great honor to be an invited guest. The party was hosted by the Mandarin Oriental in Miami. What a magnificent location! The view was amazing and the décor and tablescapes were…well…straight out of Wedding Style magazine. Glorious! Grace is, no doubt, a woman of amazing style and impeccable vision. This new book is an stunning representation of the most amazing weddings worldwide.
The cocktail party started at 7:00 and the Mandarin Oriental staff pampered us with to die for single serve appetizers. I made friends with each of them to ensure that they would frequently revisit my area. ;-) The room was full of beautiful and talented industry leaders. It was a little surreal feeling at times. I confess that I have a tendency to feel “out of place” at such swanky events but nonetheless, I immersed myself in the moment and the rare opportunity. It was memorable.
I found a couple of ladies that I ultimately had much in common with. I immensely enjoyed the conversation with these women. Betty, owner of Sweet Tiers, is an amazing cake designer who is featured in Grace’s book. She is quietly humble but I must tell you that she has every right to scream to the mountain tops in recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments over the years. It was a pleasure to meet her and her assistant and I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will someday have to chance to work together on a wedding. Betty, you are an authentic talent and our industry is better for your contributions. I am so thrilled to have met and chatted with you. I will see you for lunch the next time that I am in Jupiter. Congratulations again on your publication. XOXO
