As a cancer survivor she spoke confidently, swiftly and with a clear purpose. She said, “I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you are in a cold, sterile hospital room. To your right is a Doctor in a white lab coat and he says those three words that you dread to hear. You have cancer.” In my mind I was honestly trying not to even think about it. I have that fear. I know that most of us have been affected by cancer in some form or another. For me it was losing my Paw Paw, seeing my MawMaw battle and survive breast cancer, losing my Dad, losing my Aunt Dot and losing my Aunt Rachelle. Too many people in my own life and far to many people in the world! As much as I tried not to, I wondered, at that moment when you hear those words and you feel your world collapse around you, what do you do? What questions would you ask? Am I going to die? Am I going to lose my hair? Will my children grow up without their mother? I imagined that the climate in the room would be frozen, literally. Where would you go from there? Who would understand your fear?
This is where In The Pink comes into the picture. I heard stories last night that women actually head straight from the hospital to In The Pink for comfort, a warm welcome, understanding and compassion for what they are about to face. You see the owner, Jeri, is a cancer survivor herself so she has been there, felt the pain and relates to the struggle. She knows first hand the agony of having to have your head shaved and asking retail personnel for specialty bras. It was this experience that led her to a dream of opening a boutique dedicated to cancer patients and survivors of all kinds. And that is exactly what she did.
In The Pink offers everything from specialized clothing and accessories to yoga and dignified head shaving. In fact, they actually teach laugh therapy…yes I did just say laugh therapy and honestly, cancer or no cancer I think that everyone in this world could benefit from a little laugh therapy! Don’t you?
The 4 ladies that you will see pictured below are also survivors and have found a “home” at In The Pink. They were beautiful, inspiring and strong. I was honored to have them in front of my camera! What a fantastic and necessary little place I found this boutique to be. I was privileged to be a contributing vendor for this special event and I hope that you will all be touched in some way of your own to help find a cure!
