I get the question a lot as to what my post processing workflow includes. Although I am going to keep the exact process as an exclusive discussion between me and my {Walk The Shot} gals, I thought that this post might be helpful to some of you who have posed the question to me. Here are a few SOOC (that stands for straight out of camera) shots verses my final edits. I have always maintained that getting a great SOOC shot is the key to efficient processing. I constantly try to nail my exposure and light source from the start, which saves me so much time later on. You will find that the more you focus on your SOOC result the better you will become. If you are currently shooting with the mindset of “I’ll fix it later” I strongly suggest that you throw that philosophy out the window as quickly as possible! ;-)
As you review the differences between the two images keep in mind that majority of your clients come to you for the experience that you offer them. It is not always about the images themselves. Invest in your clients and honor the trust that they have bestowed upon you as their chosen photographer. One of the most important things that you can do is allow your clients to be a part of your world and in turn become a small part of theirs. I tend to become fast friends with most of my clients and that is the way I prefer it. I know that some of you have a more definitive line concerning clients relationships and that is perfectly respectable. I, however, choose to be involved in my clients lives both before and continuously after their session or wedding with me. I want to see the growth within their marriages, families and children. I think that this is why I have been so successful in the aspect of word of mouth referrals. Don’t be afraid to share more of yourself with your clients. They want to know who you are. : )
I have the same philosophy as you do Dawn, I believe in relationships, after the fact, with clients!! And that is how I prefer it to stay, besides my clients ROCK! lol
Thanks so much for posting these, it is awesome to see the difference in your SOOC and edited version! :) BTW You Rock!!
Dawn, I think your photography is fantastic. You really have great ease with SOOC shots. I would love to get some post-processing advice from you. You really have a great technique in making your shots pop. Great post. Thanks!
