I got an unexpected treasure in the mail last week. A tiny brown box that housed a very special gift. I had no idea what to expect as I folded back each of the 4 sides. Inside was a coffee mug…not just any coffee mug…my Father’s coffee mug. It was a gift that I had given him many, many years ago for his birthday. Dawn (my step Mom) says that he drank out of it almost everyday. I couldn’t wait until the next morning to brew my coffee. As I sat holding that mug, my hands enveloped in warmth, I felt like my Dad was touching me. I know it sounds silly but it is the truth. It’s funny how such insignificant little things in life can morph into something of such immense significance when you lose someone that you love. I have been drinking out of that coffee mug every morning since. And because it is smaller than my usual favorite mug that means I actually enjoy two cups of warmth and double my Dads “almost touch.”
In the midst of a crazy busy week I just wanted to take a quick minute to remember my Dad and all of those special people who are no longer with me. Life is so precious and I am truly thankful for everyone in my life…and that includes all of you loyal blog readers! I hope that each of you find an unexpected treasure of your own this week. Have a super week!
Seriously Dawn you made me start crying, it so important to remember all of the loved ones that have passed and finding little ways to remember… It’s been 3 years since my grandma passed away. When she did she left me with a little bit of money. So I went to Tiffany’s and bought a silver bracelet with it. You see she always wore lots of jewelry, and since most of my aunts had rightfully taken most of the important jewelry I wanted to take the little bit she gave me and buy something I could wear everyday. Her 3rd anniversary of her passing was last weekend and while I was out all day I made sure I was wearing that bracelet so I could be reminded of her. Thank you for sharing your story and letting me share mine jsut now.
Ooh, CHILLS! I love this. *hugs*
Hi Dawn! Touching post! I still have my grandpa’s mug…. it is definitely a treasure!
So sweet, and now I’m all teary at work. :) I know just what you mean, just a look or a smell can take you back to a lovely memory.
What a beautiful story. I love my coffee mugs (I wrote a whole blog post about my variety), but one holds a really special place in my heart, too. It’s a mug that says “Paul’s Legacy: An experience with God through outdoor adventure.” What’s so special is that Paul was my dad, and his best friend started a type of rafting ministry (my dad and him were white water rafting guides), and he called it Paul’s Legacy. Ahhh, I love sipping coffee from that mug even now 16 years after my dad passed. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Nothing like starting my week off with a good cry…So sweet! :)
Love it!! Enjoy that coffee and those almost touches! Love you Lady! <3
Such a beautiful story!
