Kristin happened across my work while viewing Megan and Trace’s wedding photos and began to follow me. I was unaware. That is, until I opened an e-mail from Kristin who informed me that her Nanny had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and she wanted to book a family session with me. The minute I read “Nanny” I was all in…you all know how I feel about my own Nanny. Kristin and her Mom informed me how spunky and sassy their Nanny is. I was immediately anxious to meet her. And boy, did she live up to their claims…and then some.
Nanny stepped out of that mini-van and turned on her charm. Cigarette in hand she was full steam ahead! She was, first a foremost, an attractive older woman whom I am certain drove the men wild in her youth. Her eyes, a pale shade of blue, welcome you at first glance. She has a raspy voice that tells the tale of a woman who may have seen her fair share of difficult times in this life but has a steadfast perseverance. She is world traveled and a lover of nature. Just five minutes with her and I was ready to claim her as my own. Seriously.
We joked about how she would have been a fabulous burlesque dancer back in the day…and no doubt she would have! I love women with such an open mind…especially at her age. I laughed. I smiled. I laughed some more. She was a total riot! She even invited me to feel her new boobies so I gave them a squeeze. ;-) She is proud of those things! In fact, she told me that she had recently purchased a tee shirt that says “Yes. They are fake. My real ones tried to kill me.” Her approach to life is inspiring. I felt like I could have followed this entire family home and sat around Nanny’s kitchen table with them drinking coffee until the wee hours of the morning. Well, let me rephrase that…I could sit and drink coffee and Nanny would drink margaritas. Ah yes. She is a lover of margaritas and she was headed to La Nap to have a few directly following our session. I told her that I thought she earned one and she quickly corrected “one” with “a few.” Quick witted and blatantly honesty. Oh how I loved her. She is definitely my kind of gal!!!
Joanna, Kristin, Nanny and family…how do I thank y’all for allowing me the pure pleasure of working with all of you? It was indeed a pleasure! Your entire family has a spirit of joy that is clearly visible to anyone in your presence. The laughter and love shared between y’all is incredibly refreshing. I feel privileged to have been the photographer you chose to document this occasion in your lives. I thank you from the very bottom of my heart. And for the record…I’d definitely claim her any day!!!
