I have always had a love for food. Most people say “you’d never know it by looking at you” but nonetheless…food gets me excited! And yes, I like my chicken fried! Well, I like a lotta things fried but my chicken in particular. Last night I had my Nanny and Papa over for supper to celebrate my Papa’s 82 birthday (which is actually today) and you guessed it…I fried chicken. The pure comfort of a good ole’ home cooked southern meal and my Nanny and Papa at the table with me was almost enough to bring tears to my eyes. I love all of my grandparents so much and I am truly blessed to have 3 amazing grandmothers and 2 grandfathers still with me. I adore each one of them and I never take them for granted. I always try to make it known how much they mean to me!!! And this chorus from the song “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band (minus the beer) makes me smile about all of these things that I have just mentioned to you.
And a little bit of chicken fried…
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I`ve seen the sunrise
See the love in my woman`s eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother`s love
And its funny how it`s the simple things in life that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There`s no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I`ve come to know
So if you agree have a drink with me
Raise you glasses for a toast
To a little bit of chicken fried
So…from me to you…I wish you a whole lotta “chicken fried” in your life!!! Here’s a quick share of me, hubby and the best chicken fryer on this planet…my Granny! And the “scraps” that were left after the boys raided the chicken pans at our last family get together. You gotta be fast when it comes to Granny Corbitt’s fried chicken. We wait on each other like one hog waits on another. ;-)
Happy Monday y’all!
Dawn you crack me up! I did tell you that I’ve never fried chicken in my life! I guess I don’t know what I’m missing. Next time I’m in JAX I’d like you to serve me up a big ‘ol helping please!! I do love that song!!
Renee…you betcha!!!

I haven’t had an appetite in 3 days (been sick) but this might have just cured it hahaa. I love some fried chicken and mashed “taters”. Your granny is adorable!

Renee, I can’t believe you have never had fried chicken!!!! If I had known that we would have been going to this great place in Nashville! Dawn, I love that you love your food and like to share with us! This is a great post!
Dawn….I’m a Southern girl and I live in SoCal now where I don’t get to indulge too much on the comfort foods from back home. But girrrrrl, you’ve got me wanting to bust out my great grandmama’s cast iron skillet! Sometimes I just have to bless my SoCal friends and family with some Fried Chicken, Hot Water Cornbread and all the fixen’s. I call that love! And I love your Style!
