Growing up I loved to hear my Nanny tell me about the nights I would cry for hours on end and nothing my Mom would do (rocking, walking, pacing) seemed to soothe me. Nanny would start to feel sorry for Momma and wanted to let her get some rest so after a while she’d come in and say “let me have her.” Of course two minutes later I would be fast asleep! Nothing like my Nanny’s touch. As a young girl I spent countless nights at my Nanny’s house. In fact, that’s where my love for TV news magazines like 20/20 and Dateline began. It was like Friday date night with my Nanny and Papa. I have so many memories but one in particular is close to my heart and will forever be a date that I share with them and that is our Anniversary. I married my husband on the date of my Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary…June 17, 2000. So this year Jeff and I celebrated 10 years and they celebrated 60! Isn’t that incredible? Certainly something to aspire too.
Many of you know (or have read) about the special bond that I share with my Nanny. It’s one of those indescribable treasures in my life. In many ways we are such kindred spirits. And yet at times we couldn’t possibly be more different. For instance, my Nanny has always stuck to a “day schedule”…
Monday: Cleaning
Tuesday: Washes her hair
Wednesday: Bowling
Thursday: Ironing
Friday: Grocery shopping
Saturday: Cook Sunday’s supper
Sunday: Church
Now me, as much as I like to have a “daily routine” I couldn’t imagine sticking to a specific day to accomplish certain tasks. I just do what I need to do when I need to do it. I learned so much from my Nanny growing up (and both of my other Grandmothers as well). I am just so blessed to have all of them here with me today! And in honor of my Grandparents I wanted to share with you their 2010 Christmas Portrait…meet my precious Nanny and Papa.
